Billy Joe threw something off the Tallahatchie bridge and I went after it.

June 4th, 2025

It’s funny what could trigger something. Listener Jeff/563 sent me a music vid of Bobbie Gentry-Ode to Billy Joe because in the lyrics are the following “was the third of June, another sleepy dusty Delta day, I was out choppin’ cotton….” and so forth. Jeff wanted to know if I was going to play the song on the 3rd of June. I had already recorded the show for the 3rd and since it was a Tuesday and a premium show I never really play songs on the premium shows. The point of all this is really where Jeff’s text led to. Off to the side of the Gentry video was a column of other videos that the platform thinks you might be interested in and they were right, one caught my eye titled: First time hearing The Beatles medley from Abbey Road. A woman wearing headphones who appears to be around 20 sat in front of a camera and listened to THE MEDLEY from side two of Abbey, 8 tracks clocking in at around 16 minutes. These tracks we learned some 50+ years ago were song fragments from previous sessions put together in a suite by Sir Paul and producer George Martin. I found watching this woman react to the music rather hypnotic. Her face lighting up through all the harmonies, piercing guitar solos, and Ringo’s only drum solo ever on a Beatles record. I know certain songs, sounds, photos, movies, tv shows, etc. can send you down a warm fuzzy rabbit hole and I have to say Jeff sending me Bobbie Gentry which then sent me to a woman listening to the Beatles was quite an experience for 20 minutes. It wasn’t the same tingle you get when you push hard on your belly button but it was close.
