You ever watch those HGTV shows where they’re moving real estate?
A realtor parades people through various houses/condos all the while using descriptive realtor speak…”jack and jill bathroom”….”media center”….”great room”…..”master suite”….”salon.” Really what they are referring to are bathrooms with 2 doors, the front room, a bedroom with a ceiling fan, a room that should be a closet but is called a bedroom, er, check that, a salon. Oh and that media room is usually a basement with a drop ceiling and a sink in the corner. It’s fun to watch the agent put as much lipstick as possible on some of these shitholes. And sometimes it works as you’ll see people go gaga over an island in the kitchen or a deck overlooking a pond in the backyard. Now having said all that, would you buy a house where someone was murdered? There’s one currently for sale with that pedigree in California. It’s the house where the LaBianca’s were killed by the Manson family 50 years ago. It’s now on the market and has had several owners since the slayings. The current owners have been there for 20 years. The house is a little over 1600 square feet, has a pink-tiled bathroom, a gas fireplace, and a pool. The last sale of the house was in 1998 for $375,000. The current asking price is 1.98 million.
Location, location, location. That house is smaller than the one I grew up in with 8 family members, ours was 1800 sq. ft. My parents paid 22 thousand for that house in the early 60’s in suburban Chicago. I know several people in the Chicago area struggling to sell their house, one has been on the market for years, nice neighborhood, great schools, multiple price reductions….zilch, no offers. Imagine if you can’t sell your home and then you see a house where people were brutally murdered and it has had several buyers over the years and the current asking price is as the realtor stated “only slightly discounted.” Oh the real estate agent also has a note with the listing that says “please research before showing.”
Yes indeedy, one man’s ceiling is another man’s floor, especially when it’s been covered in blood. Now I’d love to see that showing on HGTV.
Gunga, galunga,
Garry
