The Odyssey of Landing From the Pandemic
October 8th, 2022Is it just me or has the exit from the pandemic been strange? I define the pandemic as the time when everything was completely shut down. The virus I feel will go on forever in one form or another. What is happening now reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode that aired February 24, 1961 titled “The Odyssey of Flight 33” where a commercial flight breaks the time barrier and goes back to the prehistoric age and then to New York City in 1939. My parallel to this episode and the pandemic is we woke up in March of 2020 and everything was shut down and we still haven’t found the mojo we were living pre-pandemic. Yes some of what we’re experiencing now would no doubt be happening regardless but I think you will agree something is much different in the atmosphere in the past months. The overall feeling is that of “waiting for the other shoe to drop” right? I mean c’mon look what has happened in the past weeks, Queen Elizabeth dies, Florida gets hit by a mega hurricane and Tom Brady is getting divorced. Gang, this is the kind of stuff that happens after the world shuts down for months on end. It’s like when the brain is deprived of oxygen for a certain amount of time. Something happened when we couldn’t go to Costco, Taco Bell, or a Tim Hortons for weeks and weeks. A circuit breaker snapped and it hasn’t been fully reset. Like Flight 33 everything was normal and then you look out the window and dinosaurs are walking around. Quoting Captain Farver from Flight 33 “we’re going to try to increase our speed and go back through the same sound barrier we’ve already done twice before. I don’t know if we can do it. All I ask of you is that you remain calm…and pray.” And then Rod Serling comes on and says “That would be Global 33 trying to get home from The Twilight Zone. I hear ya brother.
