The Second British Invasion
December 14th, 2021As far as I’m concerned good lighting and good timing are everything in life and the recently released Beatles’ documentary Get Back checks both of those boxes nicely among many other things. The film’s resolution is outstanding for being over 50 years old. However that happened, whether it was filmed that way or director Peter Jackson goosed it up…bravo. As far as timing I believe Get Back did for me at this point in time what The Beatles appearance on Ed Sullivan in ’64 accomplished as far as being the perfect elixir to erase some funk. The Fab Four landing in America in ’64 was just a few months after Kennedy was killed and boy we needed something to get our nervous system adjusted and this was a British invasion that we actually welcomed. Get Back coming 2 years into a pandemic did the same thing for me. I got to go back to a time when all 4 Beatles were still alive and sit in the studio with them and witness the process of writing and recording some of their soon to be classics and the embryonic stages of some solo stuff to come. Another amazing point is that all the people involved in this project back then including John, Paul, George and Ringo were in their 20’s. The director Michael Lindsay-Hogg who is often seen sucking on a cigar looks like he’s about 14 but wow did he know what he was doing. As I’ve been saying on the show this would be like somebody filming the Wright Bros inventing the airplane. There IS footage of guys riveting the Titanic and that led me to blow the whistle on why it sunk so fast…..anywho let’s get back to Get Back. This is something I will surely watch multiple times so I can thoroughly Zapruder the whole thing. Oops, there’s that Kennedy assassination reference again. Now if you really want to have some fun with this documentary make it a drinking game. Everytime someone lights up a cigarette take a drink but if you haven’t seen it yet be forewarned, we’re talking around 8 hours of content and you’ll probably be toasted in the first 6 minutes.
Gunga, galunga
