The Summer of Jaws

June 12th, 2020

JAWS was Hollywood’s first movie to be labeled a “blockbuster” back in 1975. For years after the book and film came out people were afraid to go in the ocean for fear of losing life or limb. The summer of 2020 is our JAWS. Remember the scene where it’s the 4th of July on Amity Island and because of a recent shark attack people all stayed on the beach and no one wanted to get into the water? Well ladies and gentlemen this is the atmosphere we are all in right now. First of all people who go in the ocean should know by now that yes sharks live there but what I’m talking about is the fact that while mostly everything is reopening right now a lot of people seem leery to go to places where a lot of people might be congregating. I would like to go to a restaurant, a movie, a shopping mall but I’m not 100% sure that Covid isn’t out there. Yes, Covid is our great white shark now. You want to put your toe in a place where normally a lot of people assemble but you second guess and decide not to right now. Maybe I’ll wait a few more weeks, months to make sure the coast is clear. And if it’s required to wear a mask at a restaurant what’s the point because I’ll have to pull it off to eat and drink. But rest assured Dr. Fauci is our Quint. Fauci is hunting down a vaccine to kill Covid. “one thing about Covid is it has lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll’s eyes. When it comes at ya, it doesn’t even seem to be livin’….till it bites ya, and then it rips you to pieces.” I just hope I don’t see the Kintner boy on a ventilator on the 4th of July. Cue the music. do dum, do dum, do dum, do da dooo.
