Vatican Infamnia
February 24th, 2019Do you think this is odd? The Vatican convened a summit with the pope and the presidents of bishops’ conferences around the world to discuss the sexual abuse crisis. Is it possible that some of those guys in attendance turned a blind eye to predatory priests allowing them to continue their molestation of children for years and years? As it turns out a lot of what finally came to light we learned was handled “in-house.” Almost all the cases were handled between a victim, a victim’s lawyer and the church where a payment was made and no police report was involved. Because of this fox watching the hen-house design priests on the hunt were able to do the damage they did for decades. There was a figurative fist bump at the Vatican meeting because Pope F expelled Theodore E. McCarrick, a former cardinal and archbishop of Washington, from the priesthood, after the church found him guilty of sexually abusing minors and adult seminarians over decades. A substantiated claim said Theodore had abused an altar boy almost 50 years ago! McCarrick is almost 90 now, geez, this is johnny-on-the-spot justice. So the odd part is that there seems to be the same mentality of “we can handle this in-house” where there should be law enforcement involved since the track record of cash settlement and hide it ain’t workin’. That Vatican conference reminded me of The Godfather scene where all 5 families are gathered to discuss if or how they should sell drugs and both meetings drew the same conclusion: “I don’t want it near children, schools or playgrounds, it’s an infamnia!”
