Hey, just for snicks and giggles let’s try to replicate what the recent Mega Millions winner is going through right now. First of all I like when it’s just one person that wins as opposed to these pools even though almost 1.4 billion dollars does divvy up nicely but I want to think about that one person waking up to a ton-o-money. First of all, what about the moments leading up to buying the ticket? Since the ticket was purchased at a gas station did the person need gas and just happen to be going by this particular Speedway gas station in Des Plaines, Illinois? When they pulled into the gas station did they see a sign flashing the jackpot number and decide to grab a ticket or tickets after pumping some gas? Did they not need gas and always go to this place specifically to buy tickets? Was it just a random location? Did they pick the numbers or were they quick pick? If they picked the numbers what were the significance of the numbers? After I get my tickets I look at the numbers and think “oh, those look like winning numbers.” Did the winner put the tickets in his/her pocket or put the tickets in a cup holder till they got home. After I look at my tickets I put them in a cup holder until I get home and then they go on top of a dresser. I don’t watch the drawing at 11p Eastern because I want to extend the thought that I have won. Did the person who won watch the drawing on that Friday night? When they checked their ticket(s) and realized they had won over 1 billion dollars if they were the sole possessor of those numbers what is that feeling like? I would imagine you go over the numbers repeatedly and then go very numb when you accept the fact that you have a win winning ticket. Are you with other people and can they keep quiet or are you alone and who do you call, if anyone? Do you not check the tickets Friday night and when you wake up you hear that the winning ticket was sold in the town where you bought yours. You check your ticket(s) and BOOM! What are the days like following the fact that you now have a piece of paper in front of you that is worth 1.3+ billion dollars? Where do you put the ticket? Do you make copies right away? Do you leave the house? Do you sleep, can you sleep? What’s the first thing you want to buy? Are you nervous? Are you overwhelmed? What’s your game plan initially? Will you have to move you think? Who can you absolutely trust? What is your wildest fantasy that you want to fulfill? Say this person is making 45 thousand a year leading up to this moment and now they have 745 million if taken in one lump sum or 39 million a year for 29 years. Even after taxes this is a shitload of money. I’m just curious because this is one of those moments where one’s life is completely altered in an instant, I hope in a good way. My dream if I won was to buy the Doof Wagon from the movie Mad Max: Fury Road. Not gonna happen with the 7 bucks I won.
