Entering The Twilight Zone

January 28th, 2020

Well folks I think we’ve entered the Twilight Zone once again, it’s not the first time and certainly won’t be the last. Welcome if you will to this latest episode. Recently the geniuses at Planters Peanuts released on the net a commercial that was going to run on Super Bowl Sunday and as a sidenote I don’t know how this enhances the excitement of the ad if most people can see it before Super Bowl Sunday, anywho the commercial shows the decades old mascot Mr. Peanut dying in a fiery wreck when the Nutmobile goes off a cliff….terrific right? Well then Kobe Bryant dies and now the Planters people are pulling the ad because it might seem “insensitive” to some people. Although prior to Kobe’s death no one at PP thought killing their figurehead in a ball of flames was problematic. Pretty normal. There will however be a Planters commercial during the Bowl that features a Mr. Peanut funeral. Huh! WTF! Who the hell came up with this campaign and after it was presented who approved it?? Here’s the Twilight Zone part, there is a concern that the death of a fictional character, a peanut given human male characteristics, will upset people mourning the loss of a basketball player. And here’s another thing, it’s a football game so why is there any overlap with Kobe Bryant? If a NASCAR driver dies tragically right before the World Series would he be honored at the first game? Here’s Rod Serling to tell us more. “when the creators of Mr. Potato Head decided to 86 him it presented a conundrum in that his demise came just days before a famous golfer was struck by lightning during a PGA tournament and it sent a cloud over the fast approaching NCAA Final forcing Mr. Potato Head’s funeral onto the back burner and the back burner ironically is where he had died. Yes you have entered another dimension and time on The Twilight Zone.”
